How to ski in Alta Badia

The blue pistes, which make up almost half of the piste network, lie on the slopes closest to the villages of Corvara, La Villa and San Cassiano. They are easily reached by gondolas straight from the village centres, which makes the area very accessible for beginners and families who want to practise without having to cross more difficult terrain.

The red pistes, which account for around 30 per cent of the system, along with a smaller number of black runs, are found higher up towards the peaks where the terrain becomes steeper and narrower. More experience is needed here, particularly on the flanks facing the highest lift stations up towards 2 778 metres above sea level.

Alta Badia is part of the famous Sella Ronda circuit, which means you can travel right around the Dolomite massif in a single day by alternating between lifts and pistes. With 53 lifts and 130 kilometres of pistes in the local system, linked to Dolomiti Superski's 1 200 kilometres, you can explore several valleys without returning to your starting point.

One practical tip is that the vertical drop between the village at 1 324 metres and the summit at 2 778 metres means snow quality varies noticeably through the day. Mornings often offer the best snow higher up, while the afternoon sun softens the pistes near the village. The longest queues build up around the central hubs in the middle of the day, so early or late outings pay off.
