The Austrian Alps

Austria is the most popular destination for skiers, and with good reason. The country accounts for 30 of our 83 ski resorts, ranging from family-friendly resorts to intense apres-ski paradises. The infrastructure is top-class, with modern gondolas, well-groomed pistes and a wide range of accommodation.

Prices in Austria are generally lower than in Switzerland and on a par with Italy. The combination of large ski areas, plenty of beds and good standards makes Austria a safe choice for both first-time visitors and experienced skiers.

Among the most popular Austrian resorts you'll find Ischgl with 238 km of pistes and legendary apres-ski, St. Anton with 305 km of pistes and challenging off-piste, and Saalbach with 270 km of pistes in the Skicircus area.

For families we recommend Flachau, Maria Alm and Wagrain, all with wide pistes and good ski schools. Anyone prioritising snow reliability should take a closer look at Obertauern at 1,740 metres or Obergurgl at 1,930 metres.

The Italian Alps

Italy offers a truly special skiing experience with fantastic food, generous portions and often lower prices than its neighbours. We guide you to 17 Italian ski resorts, from the Dolomites' dramatic cliff landscapes to high-altitude, snow-sure Livigno.

Livigno lies at 1,816 metres and is one of the Alps' most snow-sure resorts. The resort has tax-free status, which makes shopping and nightlife cheaper. With 115 km of pistes and a good selection of freestyle parks, Livigno suits a broad audience.

Canazei is in the Dolomites and forms part of the enormous Dolomiti Superski area. The scenery is spectacular, with steep cliff faces and varied pistes. The food is of a high standard, with local specialities and generous lunches at the mountain restaurants. Canazei suits anyone who wants to combine skiing with gastronomic experiences.

In the Dolomites you'll also find classics such as Cortina d'Ampezzo, Selva Val Gardena and Alta Badia, while Madonna di Campiglio in the Brenta Dolomites offers elegant alpine living and wide, sunny pistes.

The Swiss Alps

Switzerland is represented by 13 ski resorts with us, from iconic classics to quiet alpine villages.

Grindelwald is in the Bernese Oberland with views of the famous Eiger north face. The resort offers 160 km of pistes in the Jungfrau region and an alpine charm that's hard to beat. The new V-bahn gondola has revolutionised access to the peaks.

Among the other Swiss resorts you'll find Zermatt at the foot of the Matterhorn, fashionable St. Moritz in the Engadin, and Davos with its large and varied ski area. Switzerland generally has higher prices than Austria and Italy, but the quality of accommodation, pistes and service is consistently high.

The French Alps

France has the largest interconnected ski areas in the Alps. Les 3 Vallées, with Val Thorens, Méribel and Courchevel, exceeds 600 km of pistes, and Espace Killy links Val d'Isère with Tignes high in the mountains. Chamonix at the foot of Mont Blanc is home to the Alps' most famous off-piste skiing.

French ski resorts are often high altitude, which gives a long season and reliable snow. Paradiski, with Les Arcs and La Plagne, is one of Europe's largest lift systems, and ski-in ski-out apartments are the standard rather than the exception.
