How to ski in Flims Laax Falera
Flims Laax Falera is built around three villages connected by the lift system, and it is around Laax and the sunny plateau at Flims that beginners and families find their feet. Blue pistes dominate here, accounting for almost half of the ski area, and the lifts run straight from the villages up into easily accessible terrain without you having to cross harder sections to get there.
The higher you go towards the top station and the glacier area, the more the red and black sections take over. The steep flanks and freeride zones lie in the upper part of the ski area, and that is also where the technically demanding runs are concentrated, some way beyond the gentler terrain closer to the villages.
The sectors of the three villages are connected by the lift network, so you can move between Flims, Laax and Falera in the same day without having to ski the same runs twice. With 176 kilometres of piste served by 29 lifts, there is plenty of scope to put together a circuit covering several parts of the ski area before you need to head back to your starting point.
The vertical drop between the village at 1 016 metres and the summit at 3 018 metres is considerable, and it shows in the snow quality. Higher up, the snow stays colder and drier later into the season, while the pistes closest to Flims can become heavy when the sun is high. The snow park in Laax sits as a separate section on the map, handy to keep an eye on if you want to avoid the busiest zone in the middle of the day.
