Pistes and lifts in LAAX
The 224 km of pistes in Flims Laax Falera stretch from the glaciated Vorab summit at 3,018 metres right down to the valley floor. Crap Sogn Gion is the hub where most lifts meet, and this is also where the famous halfpipe and snowparks are located. From here, the pistes spread out in every direction. The wide blue runs towards Falera are excellent for families, while the red and black descents from Cassons and Vorab challenge experienced skiers. The longest run is a full 14 km from Vorab to Flims.

Snow reliability in LAAX
LAAX is considered snow-sure thanks to the huge vertical range of the ski area, from 1,100 metres in the valley up to the Vorab glacier at 3,018 metres. The glacier delivers reliable snow cover even when conditions lower down the mountain are less favourable.
With pistes spread across the entire altitude range, and the 14 km descent from Vorab to Flims as a prime example, there is every chance of finding good skiing whatever the weather brings during the season.
Best time to travel to LAAX
For ensured snow, January and February are best, with reliable snow coverd on the Vorab glacier. The LAAX Open is usually held in January, adding extra atmosphere for freestyle enthusiasts. March and April offer sunny skiing and longer days. Families are wise to travel in January outside the UK half-term holidays for lower prices and shorter queues.
Will there be lift queues in LAAX?
The lift system around LAAX carries 49,696 people an hour across 29 lifts. 22 of the 29 lifts are gondolas, cable cars or high-speed chairlifts, the kind that clear a queue quickly. The fastest lifts carry up to 3,200 people an hour, for example Alp Dado-Crest la Siala. Per kilometre of piste there is less lift capacity than at an average resort on this site, so a busy week is felt more clearly here. The queue you actually notice is almost always down in the valley between eight and half past nine. If you are on the lift before eight you avoid it.
When is LAAX busiest?
How busy the slopes get is not decided by the English half term but by when the local families and the neighbouring countries are on holiday. These are the weeks that fill LAAX in the 2026/2027 season.
- Switzerland: The Swiss Sportferien vary from canton to canton, and sometimes between municipalities in the same canton. They are spread from late January to early March, which makes the pressure more even than in the neighbouring countries.

How to get to LAAX
You arrange your own travel: we sell the stay, not the transport. Here are the three ways people get to LAAX, so you can pick the one that suits you.
By air. The nearest airport is Zurich (ZRH). Pure flying time from London is around 1,5 hours, and from there it is 2 hours on to LAAX. You can cover the last stretch in one of two ways:
- Private transfer. A private driver meets you in the arrivals hall and drives straight to your accommodation with no stops. The price is per car, not per person, ski boxes can be booked in advance, and the driver waits even if the flight is late.

By car. Many drive. Taking the Eurotunnel from Folkestone and arriving at Calais, it's roughly 987 km to LAAX, around 10.2 hours of pure driving time through France. Remember that studded tyres are banned in France and Germany.
