How to ski in Flachau

Beginners and families will find the gentle nursery slopes at the base station in Flachau, a little above the village at 1 000 metres. From here it is easy to get straight out on the snow without having to cross any steeper sections, which makes the area very accessible for anyone clipping into skis for the first time.

The more demanding terrain lies higher up in the ski area, where longer red runs draw intermediates who want speed and length in their turns without things becoming too technical. In the northern part of the map you will find the Absolut Funpark, the place to head if you enjoy jumps and boxes, while the steepest flanks call for a bit more experience before you venture out onto them.

Flachau's 121 kilometres of pistes connect with Wagrain and Zauchensee via a shared lift system, part of the considerably larger Ski Amadé with 760 kilometres of pistes in total. That means you can spend a whole day travelling between the resorts without taking your skis off, and with 25 lifts locally you can get back quickly if the weather turns.

The vertical drop between the village at 1 000 metres and the top of the Space Jet at 1 982 metres is 982 metres, so it pays to check conditions at the summit before setting off. Because the beginner area sits right by the base station, that is usually where the crowds gather in the middle of the day, while the pistes higher up and over towards Wagrain and Zauchensee offer far more room to move.
