How to ski in Wagrain

Beginners and families will feel naturally at home at the base station in Wagrain, at an altitude of 838 metres, where the gentlest runs and the children's areas are gathered together close to the village. It is only a short walk from your accommodation down to the lifts, and the youngest skiers can practise without mixing with the faster traffic higher up in the ski area.

If you are after more speed and challenge, the more demanding terrain lies higher up towards Grießenkareck at 1 991 metres, reached quickly from the village by the Flying Mozart gondola. In the northern sector of the ski area you will find Absolut Park, one of Austria's best known terrain parks, with jumps and features for anyone who prefers freestyle to classic descents.

Wagrain's own slopes form part of Snow Space Salzburg, which with 120 kilometres of pistes and 45 lifts links Wagrain with Flachau and St. Johann/Alpendorf. It is possible to ski between the resorts in a single day, but the distances mean it pays to pick one direction at a time rather than shuttling back and forth unnecessarily.

The vertical drop between the village at 838 metres and the summit at 2 000 metres means conditions can vary considerably depending on where in the ski area you are. The highest sections towards Grießenkareck tend to hold better snow quality later into the season than the slopes closest to the base station in Wagrain.
