Piste map of Les Sybelles
The piste map of Les Sybelles shows one of France's largest linked ski areas, built around several villages in Savoie such as Le Corbier, La Toussuire and Saint-Sorlin-d'Arves, all connected by a network of 68 lifts. In total the piste network covers 310 km, from the village centres at 1 100 metres up to peaks of around 2 620 metres. The map shows how the beginner slopes are gathered near the villages at the bottom, while more demanding terrain and longer red runs spread out across the higher ground towards the summits. What makes this map unique is how clearly it illustrates the links between the different villages, meaning the whole area can be skied as one big circuit.

How to ski in Les Sybelles
Around the villages, such as Le Corbier, La Toussuire and Saint-Sorlin-d'Arves, most of the beginner slopes sit at about 1100 metres. Here the lifts are easy to reach straight from your accommodation, and the blue pistes that make up 35 per cent of the network make it easy to practise without having to travel far from the village centre. Families can essentially stay in these lower sections all day.
The higher you go towards the peaks at 2 620 metres, the more demanding the terrain becomes. The red runs, which account for 30 per cent of the piste map, stretch in long sweeps across the open flanks between the villages, while the black runs (15 per cent) are found on the steepest and most exposed sections near the summits.
What makes Les Sybelles special is how well the various villages are connected by the lift system. With 68 lifts and 310 kilometres of piste, you can ski a full circuit through the area without having to return to the same village, so an active day easily takes in several of the different sectors.
The vertical drop between village and summit, a good 1 500 metres, means snow quality varies noticeably depending on where you are. The higher sections near the peaks usually hold up best, while the pistes closest to the villages can become heavy later in the day. Around lunchtime the longest queues tend to build at the lifts linking the larger villages.
