Brides-les-Bains stands out from most French alpine villages with its spa-town character. Instead of wall-to-wall ski shops and pulsing après-ski bars, visitors are met by thermal baths and a calm, health-focused atmosphere that gives the resort an identity all of its own in Les 3 Vallées.
The village lies down in the valley at 600 metres, considerably lower than the classic ski resorts higher up the system. Despite the difference in altitude, a gondola takes skiers directly from the village centre up to Méribel, right in the heart of Les 3 Vallées, which is regarded as one of the largest linked ski areas in the world.
Its history as an Olympic village during the Albertville Winter Games gives Brides-les-Bains a touch of international status, while the resort has kept its small-scale, homely feel. Here spa guests seeking treatments and recovery mix with skiers making the most of the handy location close to the huge piste system above.
The combination of relaxation down in the valley and easy access to magnificent skiing up in the system makes Brides-les-Bains an affordable alternative to the more exclusive villages higher up in Les 3 Vallées. Accommodation with lift pass is easy to book through us, often at a lower price than you would pay for the same standard up by the pistes.

Snow reliability in Brides-les-Bains
The ski area stretches between 600 and 2,952 metres, which gives good snow conditions higher up the system throughout the season. The winter months from December to February bring night-time temperatures down to -3 to 0 degrees, which benefits snowmaking and piste quality at altitude.
In March and April the daytime temperatures rise to 12-15 degrees, which is typical of late winter in the Alps. Thanks to the ski area's high top altitude of almost 3,000 metres, it is often possible to find good snow conditions in the upper parts of Les 3 Vallées even late in the season.
Best time to travel to Brides-les-Bains
The season runs from December to April, but the coldest and most snow-sure conditions are found in January, when the night-time temperature often sits a few degrees below zero. Towards the end of the season, in March and April, the daytime temperature rises markedly, which suits anyone who puts sunshine and a spring feel ahead of the cold.
Will there be lift queues in Brides-les-Bains?
Brides-les-Bains is part of Les 3 Vallées, and the lift system there carries 290,342 people an hour across 159 lifts. 90 of the 159 lifts are gondolas or high-speed chairlifts and 12 are drag lifts, which take longer to get through when it is busy. The fastest lifts carry up to 4,000 people an hour, for example Menuires. Per kilometre of piste there is more lift capacity than at an average resort on this site, and you notice it: queues clear quickly. The queue you actually notice is almost always down in the valley between eight and half past nine. If you are on the lift before eight you avoid it.

20 February to 8 March: zone B, including Marseille and Strasbourg - England: The English February half term is 15 to 19 February 2027 for most councils, with a few areas breaking up a week earlier. The Easter holidays run from 26 March to 9 April.
8 to 12 February: half term in a few council areas, for example Hull
15 to 19 February: half term in most of England, including London, the Midlands and the North
26 March to 9 April: Easter holidays for most English schools - Easter holidays: Easter 2027 is early, on 28 March. Austria and Germany take their holidays around the weekend, while the French holidays fall after Easter, in April.
20 to 29 March: the whole of Austria, all states at the same time
22 March to 3 April: most German states, including Bavaria, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia
3 April to 3 May: the French zones, which fall after Easter 2027 and only affect the highest resorts - Long weekends: Long weekends fill the slopes with day visitors from the nearest cities, even when no schools are on holiday.
26 December to 3 January: Christmas and New Year, the most expensive period of the year
6 January: Epiphany, a public holiday in Austria, Italy and parts of Switzerland
27 to 29 March: the Easter weekend. Easter Monday is a public holiday across the Alps, but Good Friday is a working day in Austria, Italy and France

How to get to Brides-les-Bains
You arrange your own travel: we sell the stay, not the transport. Here are the three ways people get to Brides-les-Bains, so you can pick the one that suits you.
By air. The nearest airport is Chambéry (CMF). Pure flying time from London is around 1,5 hours, and from there it is 1 hour on to Brides-les-Bains. You can cover the last stretch in one of two ways:
- Private transfer. A private driver meets you in the arrivals hall and drives straight to your accommodation with no stops. The price is per car, not per person, ski boxes can be booked in advance, and the driver waits even if the flight is late.
- Hire car at the airport. With SmartCarRental you collect the car in the arrivals hall. That gets you to the neighbouring villages on the same lift pass, lets you shop at valley prices rather than resort prices, and frees you from transfer timetables. Winter tyres are standard at Alpine desks.
By car. Many drive. Taking the Eurotunnel from Folkestone and arriving at Calais, it's roughly 950 km to Brides-les-Bains, around 9.6 hours of pure driving time through France. Remember that studded tyres are banned in France and Germany.

Accommodation with lift pass in Brides-les-Bains ›Frequently asked questions about Brides-les-Bains
The top of the ski area reaches almost 3,000 metres, which gives reliable snow conditions in the higher parts of Les 3 Vallées. The village itself lies lower, but since all the skiing takes place up at Méribel and above, the snow is not affected by the village's low altitude.
Via the gondola you get access to the whole of Les 3 Vallées, one of the largest linked ski systems in the world, with a total of 150 km of pistes in the local sector alone. The size means you can ski new pistes every day for an entire stay.
The large share of blue and red pistes in the area makes it well suited to beginners and families who want to take it easy. At the same time the village itself lies some way from the pistes, which makes the gondola ride part of every ski day.
