How to ski in Brides-les-Bains
Brides-les-Bains sits at 600 metres, some way below the ski area itself, and the only way up is the gondola that takes you straight into the Méribel sector. Beginners and families should expect the first journey of every day to be by gondola, but once at the top you are met by a large area with plenty of easy blue pistes gathered around Méribel's mid-station, perfect for practising without getting mixed up with faster traffic.
The more demanding terrain, the red and black pistes, lies higher up towards the peaks and on the more weather-exposed slopes towards Val Thorens. There the terrain becomes steeper and more open, which also means the snow can be more wind-packed than on the tree-lined sections closer to Méribel.
Since Brides itself has no pistes to ski, the day is really a journey into and out of Les 3 Vallées along the same gondola line every time. With 150 kilometres of pistes and 42 lifts, the ski area lets you cover plenty of ground over the course of a day, but keep an eye on the clock: the last gondola down to Brides runs at set times.
