You reach Titlis via the spectacular rotating cable car, Titlis Rotair, the world's first rotating gondola. The famous descent from Titlis down to Stand is one of the most impressive in the Alps, with steep glacier terrain.
For families and beginners, the Brunni area on the other side of the valley offers gentle runs and fantastic views towards Titlis. The village also has a charming high street with restaurants, bakeries and traditional Swiss shops. Après-ski is calm and relaxed, more focused on cosy restaurants than on a party atmosphere.
Engelberg is easily accessible from Luzern, just 45 minutes by train, making it popular for day trips and short ski breaks. Prices are high, though somewhat lower than in the major Valais resorts, and the proximity to Luzern makes it possible to combine city visits with skiing.

The 82 km of pistes are split across two areas. The Titlis side is the main attraction, with high-altitude glacier pistes and an impressive vertical drop of over 2,000 metres. The descent from Titlis via Stand and Trübsee down to Engelberg is demanding and long. Brunni, on the other side of the valley, is a family-friendly area with gentle blue and red runs in a sunny setting. The off-piste opportunities around Titlis are excellent for experienced skiers, not least the famous Laub area.

Best time to travel to Engelberg
The glacier pistes on Titlis often open as early as October. For the best all-round conditions, January to March is ideal. Spring skiing on the glacier is possible right through to May. The Brunni area is most tempting in March, when the sun warms things up but the snow is still in good condition.
How to get to Engelberg
You arrange your own travel, and many drive their own car. Taking the Eurotunnel from Folkestone and arriving at Calais, it's roughly 885 km to Engelberg, around 9,3 hours of pure driving time through France. Remember that studded tyres are banned in France and Germany.

Engelberg is one of the easiest ski areas to reach in Switzerland. From Luzern, it takes just 45 minutes by direct train, and by car the drive from Zürich takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes via the motorway.
