How to ski in Hochfügen
Hochfügen sits at 1 500 metres, and beginners and families will find the gentlest terrain near the valley station, where the blue pistes lie sheltered and easily accessible straight from the village. From here it is simple to move on using the lifts without having to tackle the steeper parts of the ski area.
The red pistes, which make up 35 per cent of Hochfügen's 90 kilometres, take over higher up towards the top of the system at 2 500 metres. The black pistes, 15 per cent of the total, lie in the more open high-mountain sections where the terrain is exposed and demands confident technique.
Hochfügen is linked with the neighbouring resort of Hochzillertal, and together they form a system of 181 kilometres of pistes. With 40 lifts, it is possible to travel across the whole ski area in a single day, and the boundary between the two resorts is barely visible within the piste network.
The vertical drop in the ski area is 1 000 metres, which means the higher sections often hold better snow quality later in the season than the pistes closest to the village. Ideally, plan your skiing in the upper sections around the middle of the day and save the lower runs for the morning or the afternoon.
