How to ski in Pra-Loup
Beginners and families will find their slopes close to the village at 1 600 metres, where the terrain is gentler and easy to reach straight from your accommodation without having to head up into the system first. From here the skiing builds up gradually towards higher altitudes, which means anyone new to skiing can happily stay in the immediate area all day if they wish.
The more demanding terrain, with red and black sections, lies in the higher parts of the ski area up towards the summit at 2 600 metres. Here the slopes get steeper, and the piste map clearly shows how the difficulty increases the higher you go, with roughly a third of the runs graded red and a smaller share black.
Pra-Loup is not an isolated area but part of the larger Espace Lumière network, which covers 180 km of pistes in total compared with Pra-Loup's own 100 km served by 27 lifts. That means a confident skier can range well beyond Pra-Loup itself in a single day, while anyone staying on home ground still has plenty of variety between village and summit.
One practical tip is that the vertical drop between village and summit, from 1600 to 2 600 metres, means snow conditions can vary considerably between the lower and upper parts of the system. The higher sections often hold better snow quality later into the season, while the lifts closest to the village can get busier in the middle of the day when everyone gathers for lunch or easier skiing.
