How to ski in Sölden

Beginners and families will find their pistes in the lower and middle parts of the network, closest to the village at around 1 368 metres. From here the lifts take you straight up into the terrain without having to cross any steeper sections, making it easy to move between your accommodation and the gentler runs throughout the day.

The more demanding terrain lies higher up, towards the high-altitude glacier sections at up to 3 340 metres. Here red pistes are mixed with steeper black flanks, and the proportion of black terrain on the map (15 per cent) is found almost exclusively in these upper parts of the ski area.

Sölden is built around two glacier mountains that are linked to the rest of the ski area by lift and piste, which means you can work your way through the whole network without skiing the same stretch twice. With 144 km of piste and 31 lifts spread across several sectors, it takes a full day to explore both the lower slopes and the glacier terrain up high.

The difference in altitude between the village and the summit gives a vertical drop of 1 972 metres, which means snow conditions can vary considerably between top and bottom. In the morning the best snow quality is often found highest up near the glaciers, while queues can build at the lifts linking the upper and lower sections in the middle of the day.
