How to ski in Ischgl

Beginners and families will find their runs around the Idalp plateau, which sits in the middle of the ski area and is easily reached by gondola from the village of Ischgl at 1 377 metres. The terrain here is open and easy to ski, and the plateau serves as a natural meeting point before heading further up the mountain.

The more demanding sections are found at Palinkopf and Pardatschgrat, where the piste map shows steeper flanks and technical sections higher up. From Idalp the lifts carry on towards these peaks, and anyone looking for a challenge works their way gradually upwards through the ski area rather than throwing themselves straight into the toughest terrain.

Ischgl is built so that you can ski all day long without repeating the same pistes. The ski area extends all the way across the border to Samnaun in Switzerland, and the 45 lifts link up the 239 kilometres of piste so that you can easily switch between the two countries in the same day. With a vertical drop of 1 495 metres between village and summit, there is also plenty of variation in conditions depending on where in the ski area you happen to be.

A practical tip is to head for the higher sections around Pardatschgrat and Palinkopf during the morning, when the snow up there is at its best, and save the Idalp plateau for the afternoon once the sun has warmed up the lower slopes. Because Idalp acts as the hub for the whole ski area, that is often where it gets busiest in the middle of the day.
