Adelboden lies at an altitude of 1,353 metres, with the ski area reaching up to 2,362 metres. That makes for a substantial vertical range, but it also means the lower parts of the network can be sensitive to milder spells. With a total of 72 km of pistes and 57 lifts there is plenty of variety, yet snow reliability is not guaranteed right through the season.

For the best snow conditions, it is worth prioritising the higher sectors closer to the top at 2,362 metres, particularly in the early and late season when the snow cover down in the valley at 1,353 metres can be thinner.

Best time to travel to Adelboden

The World Cup weekend in January is a highlight for sports enthusiasts. For families, January outside the weekends and March are best, with lower prices and good snow conditions. The high altitude of Engstligenalp (1,964 m) ensures snow well into the season. April can be unpredictable on the lower-lying runs.

Will there be lift queues in Adelboden?

The Adelboden and Lenk sector at Adelboden carries 33,670 people an hour across 22 lifts. 13 of the 22 lifts are gondolas or high-speed chairlifts and 7 are drag lifts, which take longer to get through when it is busy. The fastest lifts carry up to 2,400 people an hour, for example Stand-Xpress II (Metsch-Metschstand). That is roughly the same capacity per kilometre of piste as an average resort on this site, so queues only build when it is really busy. The queue you actually notice is almost always down in the valley between eight and half past nine. If you are on the lift before eight you avoid it.

How busy the slopes get is not decided by the English half term but by when the local families and the neighbouring countries are on holiday. These are the weeks that fill Adelboden in the 2026/2027 season.

• Switzerland: The Swiss Sportferien vary from canton to canton, and sometimes between municipalities in the same canton. They are spread from late January to early March, which makes the pressure more even than in the neighbouring countries.
• Germany: Germans are the largest foreign group in the Alps and their winter holidays are spread across early February.

Because the cantons spread their holidays out, the pressure is more even here than in the neighbouring countries. Mid-January and March are still the quietest weeks.
